Negativity in the media about pollution from fires has resulted in a large number of people wishing to stop using their wood burning stove. Due to this, professional woodburner removal is our fastest growing service. Some are happy to keep the stove in situ; a metal ornament full of nostalgia and probably equally full of candles or pine cones. Many others on the other hand want them disposed of by any means necessary.
If you remove my stove, what will be done with it?
When we remove a stove our intention is that it is taken out of circulation. The stoves are generally disassembled, their non metallic parts such as bricks and glass are given to our local recycling centre and ground up for use as ‘hardcore’ in construction. The metal is then taken to a specialist metal recycling centre. We offer this service is that our hope that the older and more polluting stoves are removed to reduce pollution, hopefully leaving only the much newer, less polluting wood burners that conform to the most stringent emissions standards. We do not make a lot of profit on this type of job when considering the fact it requires two engineers and trips to recycling centres; we do it for what we believe to be the greater good. For this reason we only do removal if we are to remove the stove and take it away from site, not if it is to be used somewhere else or be used in a garden etc. As an alternative to this, we can convert your old polluting stove to burn bioethanol.

Wood burning stoves out of fashion?
In the fireplace industry a change in fashion was really due anyway. Certain types of fireplace are always in fashion, such as antique pieces or reproductions. Aside from that though, every 5 to 10 years fashion dictates a change in chimney piece in the same way it does with the wardrobe or hairstyle.
Many fireplace installers or chimney experts are happy to remove wood burning stoves or offer a log burner removal service if they’re on site anyway installing a fancy new fireplace. They’re not generally so keen however when the task in hand is to simply remove and dispose of an old stove or wood burner.
Wood burner removal isn’t a task which should be undertaken lightly or by the average DIY enthusiast. There’s the risk of exposure to carcinogenic dust, asbestos, sharp edges and simply obstacles that one may not expect.
Professional Woodburner removal
Home Sweep Home will handle the removal and recycling from start to finish. Starting with removal of the stove itself, to cleaning of the flue to prevent horrific mess when it’s extracted from the chimney, it is all handled. Once the stove and flue liner is removed, the chimney will be throughly cleaned and capped on the roof if possible. Once the stove and flue is removed, we will dispose of the appliance and components at a metal recycling centre.
Why use a professional for stove removal?
The chimney will be swept to ensure it is clean and should not create any issues going forward. The chimney can be inspected if a different type of appliance is to go in its place. The entire process should be relatively mess and dust free. Work is carried out in a way to keep operatives and our customers safe at all times. That is of course if you choose a professional woodturner removal.
A basic removal will consist of:
- Chimney sweep and check
- Dismantling of the appliance
- Removal of the appliance from the opening
- Removal of the flue if another appliance is to be used
- Bottom of the chimney is blocked with a ventilated plate
- The area in and around the fireplace is cleaned and tidied
- Removal of the appliance from site
- Appliance is recycled
